And please don't take this the wrong way, but look. You get angry pretty easily. We all do, the four of us, Silent knows that as much as anyone. I don't think you would purposefully hurt anyone outside of a fight, but can't you see why Silent might be worried you might hurt her accidentally?

Then who's watching her to make sure she doesn't hurt Peony accidentally if she's that worried about werewolf anger? I don't know about you, but I've never once in my life felt anger while having sex. Nor do I ever expect to. There's a big difference between being a little angry and being a monster.

[Lilith sighed in frustration.]

I didn't argue with her about it. I acknowledged her claim. But I don't have to be happy about it.

[Rowan would argue that Lilith's a more than a little angry. It doesn't make her a monster, nonetheless.

But they let out a deep sigh as well, and a little bit of their tiredness lifts, a touch of gratefulness replacing it.]

You don't have to be happy. Thanks for acknowledging it, though. Sorry she insulted you, and that she still ain't quite got her head around stuff. I've been trying to work on it with her. [Not hard enough, though, they acknowledge. It got put on the back burner between one thing and another. How can you prioritise everything at once?]

At least she bothered tell me instead of assuming I knew just because she was being a voyeur in the damn tent. And that she told Peony what we are; she deserves to know what she's getting into. [So she could make informed decisions.]

I was worried Silent didn't think that was necessary.

Yeah, Peony already knew by the time I talked about to Silent, so that weren’t a problem at least. I dunno if she’d already worked it out or if Silent told her, but either way Peony knows and that’s the most important thing.

[They pause, a touch awkwardly.] How’ve you been, anyway? Sorry about the weekend. I know I shouldn’t have put you, or myself, in that situation.

I'm mostly bored. There isn't a whole lot to do here, and finding anything of substance in the library is trying. [And unfortunately Lilith isn't the type to use sex to pass the time. She has so few people interested in her as it was.]

And if I didn't want to be there last weekend, I wouldn't have been there. I'm the one that chose to get a chair. Though I am now concerned about you. That took a fair amount of forethought and planning given the setup and the list. Not something hastily thrown together on a whim of any sort. So what's up?

Not a lot of thought goes into it when you've spent the last few days horny as hell and then you find your name on a list. [Rowan laughs.] It's just as well Jackie said he'd help me out or I don't know what I'd have done. Probably something stupid.

Anyway, you thought about getting a job? That's what I do to keep myself out of trouble when the circus ain't in town.

[If this had been video instead of voice, Rowan would've seen the expression of someone that had never had a job in her entire life. It had never been necessary with her scholarship, the money her family had, and then she'd either been in the Order or a Knight with no out-of-school life beside either group. But that was secondary to the info Rowan had dropped before the job thing.]

Wait. Your name was on a list to do that? [Like Ren and the wrestling.] And you still did it anyway instead of telling them to shove it up their asses?

Ash... If I'd known it wasn't your choice, I wouldn't have been there. I would have stopped the whole thing.

I mean, I still made the choice to step up. I didn't have to do that. Problem is, at that point I weren't really thinking so much with the head, you know? And it's not like I didn't enjoy the fuck out of it once I was there.

If it had been one of the other tents, though, I would have done, absolutely. Fuck that for a lark. People can see my shadow, but they ain't getting to see the real deal unless I choose.

[She sighed.] Alright, alright...

Mostly theirs. I did go through and get rid of a load of stuff that they'd left out for people that I didn't think I was ready for yet, though. Not that it was necessary, apparently I was enough of a toy. [They laugh, not really bothered about talking about themself like that.]

[This still bothered her a little, but less with Rowan themselves than with the situation. So Lilith let it be.]

Well, yeah. [She chuckled a little.] Marionettes are excellent toys for those that like to play with dolls.

Right, I wanted to ask. A marionette is like a fancy puppet, right? But what makes it different to a normal one? Is it just the posh version? [Normally they would google this, but sadly that option has been taken out of their hands, and they have to satisfy this, even if it means admitting to their ignorance.]

The only thing puppets and marionettes have in common is that they are representations of either a person or animal that is controlled by another.

A puppet is controlled by a person using their hands, fingers, rods and such to make eyes and limbs move, usually adding their voices to the performance. A puppeteer is either visible or hidden below the stage area. A marionette, on the other hand, is made of wood and controlled by string or wires attached to cross-shaped armatures so the marionettist controls it from above with far more articulation and precision than a puppet.

Pinocchio is a marionette whereas Jim Henson's characters are puppets. I mean, I guess there isn't a whole lot of difference between them but there is a more refined nature to a marionette than a puppet with someone's hand shoved up their ass.

Oh, okay. So I really was a marionette then. Aside from the dignity aspect. [They might not have had a whole hand up there, but there was certainly attempts made.] Thanks!

I am a Fine Arts student. Also Tipi Tales. That was a First Nations puppet television show from my early childhood.

Is that the kind of kids show where they do one traditional tale per episode, then? Or an over arching plot.

They were only about ten minute long episodes. No overarching plot. It was just a kids show to teach about how important friends and family are as well as First Nations culture. There wasn't a lot of that growing up.

Oh yeah, I know the type. Pretty sure there was that sort of thing on the beeb when I was a kid. Just without the cultural stuff, obviously. Or marionettes. I think most stuff was animated. [They have very vague recollections of stuff they watched as a kid, but honestly, the tv has never been much of a draw for them.]

There must be stories and stuff from you culture, though? I'd love to hear some of them, if you ever wanted to tell me. [Every culture has stories after all, it's just a case of what she wants to share.]

Yeah, there are. It's been a while since I've told any of them though. Once I hit high school I was a lot more interested in fitting in with the white people and trying not to end up the token 'Mohawk'. My grandparents were the ones that taught me the most, taught me to speak Kanienʼkeháka.

[Lilith thought for a moment.] I need to think about that. I'm in this odd place where it's part of me but doesn't define me so it's always weird when people put an emphasis on it yet I also get annoyed when it gets ignored. I'm not worried too much about you doing that, so don't take my hesitance personal.

I mean, that's fair enough. All of it. And it's up to you to decide. But if you do want to, like I said, I'd be really excited to hear!

Maybe. We'll see. [Lilith might hold onto that to have an excuse to hang out with Rowan.]
